The Green elephant est le deuxième film de Svetlana Baskova, une artiste professionnelle qui a entièrement réalisé ce projet avec son caméscope numérique et des amis à elle, également artistes. Le coût total du film n'a pas dépassé 200 euros. Le film n'eut droit qu'à une seule projection, au festival de Rotterdam en 1999. L'extrême violence et la cruauté des images du film choquèrent de nombreux spectateurs qui partirent soit en pleurant, en criant ou en vomissant. Le scandale fut tel que la réalisatrice fut bannie de son pays et son film reçut une interdiction de projection dans le monde entier. Le film eut pourtant un petit succès ces dernières années grâce à internet auprès des amateurs de gore et adeptes de ce genre de cinéma provoquant.

The film had right only to only one projection, with the Festival of Rotterdam in 1999. The extreme violence and the cruelty of the images of film shocked many spectators who left is while crying, while shouting or while vomitting. The Scandale was such as the director was banished of her country and its film accepted a prohibition of projection in the whole world.
The film however had a small success these last years thanks to Internet near the amateurs of Gore and followers of this kind of causing cinema.
