Alexis Mitchell

Alexis Mitchell est une artiste multimédia et une chercheuse installée à Toronto, dont les vidéos et installations ont été montrées dans des festivals et galeries à l'international. Son travail va de l'architecture et des objets à l'interprétation queer de la mémoire, du lieu et de l'appartenance. Mitchell a été diplômée en Production Film et Vidéo à l'Université de York, et sa vidéo de fin d'étude, CAMP, a reçu la récompense Best Upcoming Director au World Film Festival.

Parallèlement à ce travail, elle collabore très souvent avec Sharlene Bamboat, sous le nom de Bambitchell. Leur collaboration comprend Border Sounds, une installation/performance fait pour la Nuit Blanche de Toronto ; An Objective Odyssey, une installation in situ sur le lac glacé Nipissing ; ainsi que Silent Citizen, une installation interactive produite par Images Festival. Actuellement, Mitchell est en production pour de nombreux projets et est aussi doctorante en "Human Geography" à l'Université de Toronto.

ALEXIS MITCHELL is a Toronto-based media artist and scholar whose videos and installations have shown at festivals and in galleries internationally. Her work uses architectures and objects to queer common understandings of 'memory', 'place' and 'belonging'. Mitchell received her MFA in Film and Video Production from York University where her thesis video CAMP won the award for Best Upcoming Director at the World Film Festival.

Alongside her independent practice, she often works with Sharlene Bamboat, under the name Bambitchell. Their collaborations include Border Sounds, a performative sound and video installation for Toronto’s Nuit Blanche, An Objective Odyssey, a site-specific sculptural installation on frozen Lake Nipissing, and Silent Citizen, a participatory sound and video installation produced for the Images Festival. Currently, Mitchell is in production on a number of new works and is a PhD Candidate in Human Geography at the University of Toronto where she holds a SSHRC Doctoral Fellowship.
