Joana Pimenta

Joana Pimenta (née en 1986) est une cinéaste de Lisbonne, Portugal. Elle vit et travaille actuellement entre les Etats-Unis et le Brésil. Son court-métrage « The Figures Carved into the Knife by the Sap of the Banana Trees (Les formes sculptées dans le couteau par la sève des bananiers) » a reçu le Prix du Concours à Indielisboa ’14 où il a fait sa première, le Prix Tom Berman pour Meilleur Jeune Espoir au Ann Arbor Film Festival et a été projeté au Toronto International Film Festival, New York Film Festival, Jihlava, Mar de Plata, Ambulante, Edimbourg, Videoex, et Taipei parmi d’autres lieux. Son travail d’installation-vidéo a été montré au Festival Temps Images, à la Fundación Botin, la Galeria da Boavista, au Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts et à The Pipe Factory parmi d’autres. Elle travaille et enseigne actuellement au département d’Etudes Visuelles et Environnementales de l’université Harvard ainsi qu’au département Cinéma aux Beaux-Arts de l’Université Rutgers. Elle est membre du Film Study Center et du Sensory Ethnography Lab.

Joana Pimenta (b. 1986, Lisbon) is a filmmaker from Lisbon, Portugal,
currently living and working between the United States and Brazil. Her short film The Figures Carved into the Knife by the Sap of the Banana Trees received the Competition Award at Indielisboa ’14, where it premiered, the Tom Berman Award for Most Promising Filmmaker at the Ann Arbor Film Festival, and has been screened at the Toronto International Film Festival, the New York Film Festival, Jihlava, Mar del Plata, Ambulante, Edinburgh, Videoex, Taipei, among other venues. Her video installation work has been recently presented at the Festival Temps d’Images, the Fundacion Botin, Galeria da Boavista, Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts, and The Pipe Factory, among others. She works and teaches in the Department of Visual and Environmental Studies at Harvard University and in the BFA program Film at Rutgers University, and is a fellow at the Film Study Center and the Sensory Ethnography Lab.
