Karel Doing

Karel Doing est un artiste indépendant, cinéaste et chercheur. Son intérêt pour le film expérimental et le cinéma élargi est recadré dans une approche critique de la modernité et de la postmodernité, à la recherche de nouvelles significations du réel et du matériel.

À travers l'étude des processus (phyto) chimiques, l'enregistrement de l'histoire orale et la (ré) utilisation du patrimoine cinématographique, il explore des systèmes de connaissances alternatifs. Dans bon nombre de ses œuvres, les qualités rythmiques, picturales et performatives du support de film analogique sont mises en avant.

Ses films, performances et installations, ont été présentés à l'international, notamment à Paris, Los Angeles, Toronto, Bonn, Breda, Rotterdam et Londres. Ses films sont distribués par Lightcone et la Filmmakers’ Coop et figure dans les collections de EYE Filmmuseum, du Museum Boijmans van Beuningen et de collections privées.

Karel Doing is an independent artist, filmmaker and researcher. His interest in experimental film and expanded cinema is reframed within a critical approach toward modernity and post-modernity, in search of new meanings of the real and the material.

Through the study of (phyto)chemical process, the recording of oral history and the (re)use of cinematic heritage he explores alternative knowledge systems. In many of his works the rhythmical, painterly and performative qualities of the analog film medium are foregrounded.

His films, performances and installations have been shown internationally, including shows in Paris, Los Angeles, Toronto, Bonn, Breda, Rotterdam and London. His films are distributed by Lightcone and the New York Filmmakers' Coop and can be found in the collections of EYE Filmmuseum, Museum Boijmans van Beuningen and private collections.
