Maxime Jean-Baptiste

Maxime Jean-Baptiste (1993° FR) est un cinéaste basé à Bruxelles et Paris. Ayant vécu dans le contexte de la diaspora Guyano-Antillaise en France, d'une mère française et d'un père guyanais, son travail en tant qu'artiste se perçoit comme une exploration de la complexité de l'histoire coloniale occidentale en détectant la survivance de traumas du passé dans le présent. Son travail audiovisuel et performatif se focalise sur la forme du reenactement afin de concevoir la pontentialité d'une mémoire vivante et oralisée. Il a obtenu un Bachelor en Arts Visuels à l'erg et un Master en Media Arts à K.A.S.K. School of arts (Gand, BE) et est actuellement participant au programme SIC/SoundImageCulture (Bruxelles). Il travaille avec différents artistes et théoricien.nes comme collaborateur ou monteur vidéo (Bie Michels, Lotte Arndt, Vincent Meessen, Sven Augustijnen, Manon de Boer, Guy Wouété) et a présenté son travail à Bozar (BE), Enough Room for Space (BE), Kabinet Film (BE), Sphinx Cinema (BE), Khiasma (FR), Portes Ouvertes de Belleville (FR), Kask Cinema (BE), NO FLASH Video Show (USA)...

Maxime Jean-Baptiste (1993° FR) is a filmmaker based in Brussels and Paris. Born and raised in the context of the Guyano-Antillese diaspora in France, of a French mother and Guyanese father, his intrest as artist is to dig inside the complexity of western colonial history by detecting the survival of traumas from the past in the present. His audiovisual and performing work is focused on the form of the reenactment as a perspective to conceive a vivid and embodied memory. He has been graduated in Visual Arts (BA) at erg/école de recherche graphique (Brussels, BE) and in Media Arts (MA) at K.A.S.K. School of arts (Ghent, BE), and is now participant of SIC / SoundImageCulture program. He works with several artists and theorists as collaborator or video editor (Bie Michels, Lotte Arndt, Vincent Meessen, Sven Augustijnen, Manon de Boer, Guy Wouété) and presents his audiovisual works at Bozar (BE), Enough Room for Space (BE), Kabinet Film (BE), Sphinx Cinema (BE), Khiasma (FR), Portes Ouvertes de Belleville (FR), Kask Cinema (BE), NO FLASH Video Show (USA)...
