Baba Hillman

Baba Hillman a grandi au Japon, au Venezuela et à Panama. Ses films explorent la mémoire, l'histoire, la perception et la fugacité ainsi que la poétique du langage, du paysage et du corps.Ses films ont été montrés dans plusieurs festivals et musées à travers le monde, le Musée d'Art contemporain de Los Angeles, la National Gallery of Art de Washington D.C, les Rencontres Paris/Berlin, le Los Angeles Film Forum, le Ann Arbor film festival, Anthology Film Archives à New York, Cinéma La Clef à Paris, le Festival International du film d'Édimbourg, la Brotfabrik à Berlin, le festival MIX au Brésil, ICAIC Havana et d'autres festival européens touchant à l'art et aux médias, notamment le festival de Osnabrück. Elle a reçu des bourses et prix pour son travail de la part du ministère français de la culture, de la Whiting Foundation à New York, du California Arts council et des gouvernements des villes de Florence, Lecce et Certaldo en Italie. Son travail est distribué par Canyon Cinéma, le Centre de distribution des cinéastes canadiens et le Collectif Jeune Cinéma. Elle est professeur Émérite de Cinéma au Hampshire College à Amherst dans le Massachusetts.

Baba Hillman grew up in Japan, Venezuela and Panama. Her films explore memory and history, perception and transience, the poetics of language, landscape and the body. Her films have screened at festivals and museums including the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C., Rencontres Paris/Berlin, Los Angeles Film Forum, Ann Arbor Film Festival, Anthology Film Archives, Cinéma La Clef, Paris, Edinburgh International Film Festival, Brotfabrik, Berlin, MIX Brazil, ICAIC, Havana, and European Media Art Festival, Osnabruck, among others. She has received grants and awards for her work from the French Ministry of Culture, the Whiting Foundation, the California Arts Council, and the Italian city governments of Florence, Lecce and Certaldo. Her work is distributed by Canyon Cinema, The Canadian Filmmakers Distribution Centre, and Collectif Jeune Cinéma. She is Professor Emerita of Film at Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts.
