Robert Withers

Robert Withers est né en 1947 au Kansas, dans une ferme de tabac dans le Missouri.

Il a étudié l'histoire de l'art et le cinéma avec Standish Lawder à l'Université de Yale, commençant à faire des courts métrages. Il s'installe ensuite à New York, et travaille pour D.A Pennebaker durant l'époque Ziggy Stardust. Il rentre en résidence d'artiste au City College, et enseigne le cinéma, l'histoire du cinéma et l'écriture de scénarios à l'Institut des technologies de New York, aux universités de Brooklyn, de Hunter et de Fordham.

En 1984 , Withers est l'auteur d'un ouvrage : INTRODUCTION AU FILM.

En 1991, il est diplômé d'une maîtrise aux beaux- arts auMilton Avery Graduate School of Arts du Bard College.

Depuis plusieurs années Withers a été directeur exécutif de l'Exposition du Court-métrage et de la Vidéo à New-York , festival international de courts-métrages indépendants vieux de plus de 40 années.

Withers a remporté plusieurs prix pour ses courts-métrages dans des festivals aux
Etats-Unis et en Europe.

Robert Withers was born in 1947 in Kansas City, Missouri on a tobacco farm.

He studied history of art and filmmaking with Standish Lawder at Yale University, began making short art films, moved to New York City, and worked for D.A. Pennebaker during the Ziggy Stardust era. He  was artist-in-residence at City College, and taught filmmaking, film history, and screenwriting at New York Institute of Technology, Brooklyn College, Hunter College, and Fordham University.  

In 1984, Withers authored a textbook, INTRODUCTION TO FILM.

In 1991 he received a Master of Fine Arts degree from the
Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts at Bard College.
For several years Withers served as Executive Director of the New York Expo of Short Film & Video, a 40-year-old international festival of independent shorts.

Withers has won awards for his short films at festivals in the 
United States, France, and Germany, and received an Independent Filmmaker Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
