Richard O’Sullivan is an experimental filmmaker. His videos respond to theoretical questions and have focussed on the portrayal of landscape; he has also produced personal documentaries. He studied Film and Literature at the University of Warwick and for an MFA at the University of California at Los Angeles (U.C.L.A. Film School). O’Sullivan is Lecturer in Film at Queen’s University, Belfast, and his videos were submitted as academic research to the Research Excellence Framework 2014 by Queen’s.
O’Sullivan’s videos have been selected for, amongst others, the New York Video Festival, Lincoln Centre (2007); Media Forum at the Moscow Film Festival (2008); Festival des Cinémas Différents et Expérimentaux Paris (2010 and 2018); Traverse Video, Toulouse (2011). Gallery exhibitions have included ‘X-Space’, Hubei Academy of Art, Wuhan, China (2010) and ‘A Light at the End of the Tunnel’, Scope Basel, Basel (2010). Conferences exhibitions include the juried exhibition of the International Symposium of Electronic Art (ISEA, 2009), curated by Kathy Rae Huffman, and the MeCCSA conference (2020). Many of his videos are held in the collection of Collectif Jeune Cinéma, a Paris-based international archive/distributor.
